Q Cumber Films is moving its crowdfunding campaign for comedy-horror feature Employee of the Dead from Indiegogo to Kickstarter, following structural changes to the Indiegogo platform.
Indiegogo was acquired by Gamefound in 2025, with a full platform migration completing that October which eliminated Flexible Funding and moved every campaign to an all-or-nothing model. Writer-director Aaron Truss launched the campaign seeking £50,000.
Aaron says: “We had no idea that Indiegogo had changed from Flexi-Funding to Fixed Funding, that’s what Indiegogo was all about! The safety net! I got a call from Jake West on the set if his new film ‘White’ as someone had told him it had changed. I was fuming, the production team too as we’d put all our eggs in the Indiegogo basket. Our digital art designer, Ignacio Mazuecos then pitched the idea of moving to Kickstarter instead. We could make use of their model and bundle packs and even give backers more for their money.”

They had been on this journey since we launched and I really wanted to reward them for their loyalty to the project, so we decided that we would arrange something special for them. The film follows Hooban, a supermarket night shift worker years out of film school, who gets four weeks to secretly shoot a zombie movie in the aisles without his manager finding out. It draws on real events from 2008, when Truss and co-writer Joe Acres shot a zombie short in their local Sainsbury’s alongside the late Rob Knox, whose murder weeks later gave that short an unintended cult afterlife. The feature stars Dani Harmer, Ellie Raé Winstone, Paul Casar and Acres, with Nick Helm also joining the cast. Simon Boswell scores, Vince Knight shoots, and Jake West directs the film-within-a-film, with appearances from genre veterans Nicholas Vince and Sean Cronin. STARBURST
