The film is already shot. Now comes the hard part: paying for the final touches!

Independent British horror feature BEDROTTERS went live on Kickstarter today, seeking £2,000 to complete post-production and get the finished film in front of festival programmers.

The campaign opened strong. Within hours of launching it had cleared 23% of target, pulling £472 from its first seven backers. It runs 30 days and closes on 27 September.

Shot in Essex, UK and wrapped in June, Bedrotters is billed by its team in three blunt words: dark, contained, and creepy as hell. The project comes out of the Raya Films orbit, the London outfit behind smartphone-shot thriller Surveilled, currently in the middle of an aggressive run of three horror features back to back. Cult Night is in final sound mix. The Finca, a contained creeper split between Spain and London, is next up.

What makes this campaign worth paying attention to is what the money is actually for. The film exists. Principal photography is done, the rough cut is assembled, and the performances are on the drive. The £2,000 covers finishing work: sound design, colour, score, and the deliverables a festival needs before it will even look at you.

Meet the team

Bedrotters comes from James Smith and Caroline Spence, the multi-award-winning writer/director and screenwriter/producer team behind Raya Films LLP.

The pair have now produced nine feature films, Bedrotters included. All seven of their released titles have played theatrically, won awards, and secured worldwide distribution, with the catalogue available on Amazon Prime Video, Tubi, Apple TV, and Fandango.

Before moving into features, Smith and Spence made short films and documentaries broadcast on ITV in the UK and on networks in the United States.

Bedrotters is one of two titles currently in the pipeline. Cult Night, their next release, heads to the international festival circuit soon.

Casting: Eve Kathryn Oliver as ‘Dany’

Leading Bedrotters is Eve Kathryn Oliver, a familiar face to horror audiences with dozens of genre credits to her name.

Smith and Spence had followed her work for years before finally casting her in their witchy murder mystery Daggers Inn, and brought her back for Dany, the central role here.

Oliver is an intuitive performer, the kind who conveys more with a flick of the eye or a shift in posture than most actors manage with a page of dialogue. That instinct shapes Dany into a character who holds two things at once: compassionate and tough, vulnerable and resilient.

It makes for a lead you stay with. Oliver’s Dany pulls focus from the opening scene and holds it through to the credits.

Meet the Cast

Will O’Donnell as ‘Cooper’

Opposite Oliver is Will O’Donnell, returning to the Raya Films fold after working with Smith and Spence on their upcoming neo-noir thriller Cult Night.

O’Donnell arrives with a CV that reads like a genre fan’s wish list. He won an Emmy in 2019, starred alongside James Franco in Hey Joe (2024), featured in John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams (2023), and appeared in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man (2025).

Here he plays Cooper, a manipulative US Army veteran whose motives never quite land where you expect them to. O’Donnell finds the nuance in the part and makes the unsettling moments feel entirely believable, which is precisely what a character like this needs. Cooper lingers well past the credits.

Casting: Dave Kay as ‘Justin’

Rounding out the principals is Dave Kay, another returning Raya Films collaborator. In Cult Night he played Des, a creepy but ultimately harmless figure with a rather unusual fetish. Bedrotters casts him rather differently.

Here Kay is Justin, a smart, business-minded agent hustling to land Dany some tech work while nudging her to keep the money coming in at Cooper’s house in the meantime.

Born in Northern Ireland and raised in Eswatini in Southern Africa, Kay is a versatile stage and screen character actor who relishes the intricacies of villains, oddballs, and anyone with a darker edge. Which, as Smith and Spence themselves note, is probably why he keeps getting the call.
