Christopher Ambriz’s Texas-shot horror feature is now in editorial, visual effects, and scoring following a three-phase production schedule, with a Texas premiere planned and distributor conversations underway.
Night Creature Productions has moved Evil Inheritance into the back half of post-production, with director Christopher Ambriz currently cutting the film while capturing pickup shots along the way. The production wrapped principal photography last year across three distinct shooting phases in March, August, and December of 2025. The remainder of 2026 is dedicated to editing, visual effects, music scoring, and final mastering, with the team targeting an early 2027 release.
The film
Evil Inheritance follows Samantha, a woman still carrying the weight of a childhood trauma involving her stepfather. Two decades later she inherits his isolated property and returns with friends to prepare it for sale, only to find that what was buried there has not stayed buried. The structure moves between two time periods, a choice that shaped both the shoot and the edit.
The film comes from the Night Creature Productions team behind Muerte: Tales of Horror, with Ambriz directing and Louis Alvarado producing. The cast is led by Josianne Salcido as Samantha, with Mario Aguilar as Father Gomez.
From the director
“I’ve always been into horror, and with Evil Inheritance I wanted to make a love letter to those classic 80s horror flicks, mixing in a bit of genre blender for good measure,” Ambriz said. “It’s supposed to be fun and engaging while also touching on generational trauma and a character who’s overcoming the odds.”
On what the production demanded of the team, Ambriz pointed to the film’s structure and its practical work.
“The biggest challenge was shooting the film in three parts and telling a story that jumps between two different time periods. But we had an awesome cast who totally got the story we were trying to tell,” he said. “Also, getting the practical effects to work was super intense. And no matter what season it was, the weather was brutal and made everything harder.”
Where audiences will see it
Night Creature Productions plans to premiere the film in Texas. Festival submissions have not gone out yet, and the team has not announced a target circuit at this stage.
Ambriz confirmed that distributor conversations are already in motion off the strength of the existing trailers and completed scenes, though no agreement has been signed. A final trailer is expected later this year.
